Airstream is replacing the AT&T IoT (Slot A) SIM card in your Smart Control system with a SIM card capable of connecting to multiple wireless carriers. The new SIM card will enhance your Airstream experience by allowing your Smart Control system to connect to the strongest available wireless signal so you can remotely control, locate and monitor your Airstream.
What type of Smart Control router do I have in my Airstream?
- If you own a 2019 to early 2021 Classic, your Smart Control Technology system uses a BR1 router.
- If you own a late 2021 to current Classic or any Pottery Barn Special Edition, your Smart Control Technology system uses a Transit router.

Installing a SIM card in your Transit router is a simple step-by-step process that should take less than 30 minutes.
First, gather what you'll need for the job:
- A large Phillips head screwdriver
- A small Phillips head screwdriver
- The SIM Card provided by your carrier
Next, access your router and SIM card slots.
The router is located in the roadside, front, overhead storage compartment of your Airstream.
Transit routers have a metal locker cover.
The router’s two SIM card slots are located on the router's backside underneath the dust cover. Note that there are two slots. Your new IoT Smart Control SIM card goes in Slot A.
To install your new SIM card:
- Remove the two screws for the router case with the large screwdriver.
- Remove the two screws on each side of the router casing to release the router.
- Remove the two screws for the dust cover using the small screwdriver.
- Press and release the SIM card in Slot A to remove it.
- Insert the new SIM card into Slot A, slant corner first, with the chip facing downward. Press the card until it clicks into place.
Once the new SIM is installed in Slot A:
- Reinstall the dust cover
- Make sure all antenna connections are tight
- Reinstall the router and plug-in power

Reinstall the dust cover

The new Smart Control SIM card, which is provided to you at no cost, will allow your Smart Control system to stay connected for remote control and monitoring, even without an active Wi-Fi plan. This feature will strengthen your ability to control, monitor and locate your Airstream from anywhere using Smart Control.
How do I get my new Smart Control SIM card?
Simply verify your mailing address here to receive your new SIM card. The card should be shipped about 5 - 7 business days after your contact information is submitted and confirmed.
Do I have to pay for this new SIM card?
No. Airstream is providing the new SIM card at no expense as part of our commitment to provide the best possible owner experience.
When does this change take effect?
Your AT&T Smart Control SIM (not your Wi-Fi data SIM) will deactivate on June 6th. So, be sure to request your new card here at your first opportunity. Active Wi-Fi data plans will not be impacted by this change.
What should I do with my old AT&T Smart Control SIM card?
You may dispose of the card. It has no further utility after June 6th, 2022.
I have Airstream Connected service, do I need to change my SIM?
No, this is only for Airstream Smart Control systems found in Airstream Classics and Pottery Barn travel trailers manufactured after model year 2019. Airstream Connected users don’t need to change SIMs.
How will this change affect my Airstream Connected service?
It gives you more choices. Effective June 6th, you are no longer required to use AT&T for Airstream Connected. You are free to contract with the wireless carrier of your choice as of that date. Switching carriers will not adversely impact the operation or features of Airstream Connected.
How will this affect my current AT&T Airstream Connected data plan?
It won’t. Your current plan will remain in place until its scheduled expiration. At that point, you can purchase a new data plan from any major wireless carrier, including AT&T.
The AT&T portal at ATT.com/Airstream will close on June 6th, 2022.
